It means responding to each other intentionally as opposed to reacting to each other based on habits and fears from the past. It's the ability and desire to truly accept each other despite the many flaws that we may have and how suddenly they may come and go! |
It means truly and unconditionally appreciating and respecting our partner even though we are entirely different and complete people,

Chasing the Relationship Undermines the Connection
When our goal is specific, in this case a "relationship", we tend to misrepresent ourselves and over-idealize our partner to "achieve" our goals. We are not trying to "connect" with a person; we are trying to get and keep an "asset".
Our relationships struggle when we are not truly "connected". When we haven't taken the time to sincerely get to know and understand each other in all the ways that lead to a long term relationship, we end up in short term relationships!

It's Important to be
Connected in all 8 Areas! |
For relationships to really work, it's important that we both live, and continue to develop, our relationship on multiple levels. In too many cases, we only connect on a few levels, and that's not enough to maintain a long-term relationship. The more we understand and grow, the different connections will ultimately decide whether we are in the relationship for the short or long-term. |
Whether single, or already in a committed relationship, it’s a good idea to go through the 10 elements of each connection and ask ourselves and each other some key questions. The answers could make all the difference with respect to the future of the relationship. As mentioned earlier, it's not about being identical, because no two people will ever be that. The goal is to develop true awareness of each other. |
