What is Chemistry?
In the context of relationships, chemistry refers to an "emotion" that two people get when they share a special connection.

    It's not compatibility...that's different.

A relationship with a high level of compatibility, but no chemistry, will be safe but ultimately boring.

If two people have chemistry, their emotional make-ups and personalities bring out warm, fuzzy emotions in the other.

This creates a circular feeling  through which they continue to make each other feel better and better.

Do you and your partner have chemistry?

The Traits of Relationship Chemistry
So how does one "define" chemistry? It's hard to define. Chemistry is simply the feeling that you want to see that person again. You want to talk to them. You want to be with them.

Chemistry can occur in any type of relationship, as it does not need to be sexual, but if you can find it in a romantic relationship, it can be "magic".
Also, chemistry does not mean that you never have disagreements, it simply means that you don't fear conflict and that you can be open and honest with each other.

Below are 10 traits of relationship that has "Chemistry."

1 - Mutual Respect
Some believe that respect is in fact even more important than love. Respect means that you love each other for who you both are. Even the bad traits are accepted as part of the person, and neither of you "needs" to change a single thing about the other.

2 - Vulnerability
Being vulnerable can make you feel weak; however, it is a sign of strength. Chemistry means that you understand each other so well that you are prepared to share even your worst moments. You are happy to let your true emotions show.
Learn more about "Vulnerability."
3 - Shared Secrets
If you have chemistry, you don’t need too much wine to tell things that you never thought you’d tell anyone. You want to know everything that there is to know about each other and there is just no need for any secrets anymore.  Learn more about "Sharing Secrets"
4 - Effortless Talking
Have you ever met that person where talking just happens? You’re so engrossed in each other that you don’t even notice what the time is. It doesn’t matter that it’s late, or the dinner has gone cold, you’re both just enjoying the moment so much, who cares? That is an important chemistry characteristic.
5 - It's Not Just Physical
Yes, the physical is great,  but chemistry means that you’ve found your soul mate and you are comfortable and happy just to be together. The physical is important, but now, it is not everything.
Learn more about "More than just Physical."

6 - Laughter
A shared sense of humor is important, and you seem to spend a lot of the time laughing together. Even things that aren’t funny can take on a new meaning when you have bonded.
Learn more about "Laughter."
7 - Happy to Just Be Together
Chemistry means you're both up for whatever comes along, as long as you are together. You're not dreading an argument because you feel your partner will want to do one thing and you'll want to do another.
8 - Touching is Wanted
You never shy away when they touch you. It doesn’t matter if they’re lifting you off the ground in a hug or brushing an eyelash off of your cheek. You definitely don’t mind their hands against your skin.
9 - You Feel Comfortable
Do you feel like you can be yourself around your partner? Can you be real? Do you feel that they are comfortable, too? Do you feel comfortable in public with each other? How about in front of friends and family?
10 - Quiet is Okay
When there is chemistry, silences are okay. You don't wonder if the person you are with is bored. Silence is comfortable because you know the other person is happy to be with you, and you with them.
So What Does All This Mean?
Chemistry matters, but is it the only factor?

No. Is it possible to have a great relationship and long-lasting marriage without "chemistry"? Of course, it is. Thousands of years of arranged marriages across multiple cultures is proof of that.

Chemistry is that one ingredient that cannot be measured or quantified through logic. Some people have it instantly, and for others, it can develop.

As anyone who has had it can tell you though, it does make a difference.
